Supporting Inclusive Practices (SIP)

Webinar #1: Culturally Relevant Special Education Process
Date:
October 12, 2020
Time: 3-4:30pm (pacific time)
Where:  Zoom
This webinar will provide an introduction to the use of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) as a framework for developing inclusive, effective and equitable educational programs. We will use the CRP framework as a lens for problematizing the typical special education eligibility process and the resulting disparities and disproportionalities. We will present an alternative special education process that supports and celebrates diversity while providing least-intrusive interventions, non-biased assessment and culturally affirming collaboration and decision-making.

Webinar #2: IEP Writing Through the Lens of Implicit Bias
Date: October 29, 2020
Time: 3-4:30pm (pacific time)
Where:  Zoom

Participants will explore the concept of implicit bias and the nuanced behavior that is a product of our unconscious associations by examining where our stereotypes come, how we process them and learn strategies to recognize and interrupt them. The training will focus on how our individual bias impacts how we write IEPs and the long-term impact this could have on students.

Webinar #3: Equity + Compliance within Special Education
Date: November 2, 2020
Time: 3-4:30pm (pacific time)
Where:  Zoom

If a culture of equity is to become a reality in education, specifically special education, self-inquiry and dialogue about how we impact how students are educated. Understanding how to ensure compliance through goals, LRE, and disproportionality within the Special Education and IEP process supports equity for all students.
